Public debt whether we want it or not!

The following is directed to residents of Wake County, NC
who will be voting on a referendum to spend $5 billion on
a county transit plan.

But, what Wake residents is voting on this year, hundreds
of communities will be voting on this Election Day, taking
on debt on projects deemed important to elected officials
as well as self-interests that benefit at the expense of tax
payers.

Perhaps what I observed here is Wake County is similar
to what others have seen in their communities.

If you'd like to share your experience let me know and I
will post on this blog.

Regards,
Anthony

Wake County Residents,
I emailed earlier to remind you there was a  county 'transit  plan'
referendum on this year's ballot. I suggested you review the pros
and cons to determine for yourselves whether to support it.

I only recently dug deeper into the plan, read both sides and also
the News and Observers reporting on this plan and troubled from
what I read and decided to not support the plan.

As is the case with such spending referendums the more money
ought the greater the influence to get it passed, and more than one
billion dollars attracts many self interests.

I did not read of any public discussion before the 78 member advisory
committee was created. It appears town and county officials initiated
the transit plan in isolation and created the committee to drive it.

I was also troubled there was no mention of current problems with
transit, only projections for the future.  Not one  mention that average
ridership per trip is less than ten per bus, and often  much lower.

So where is the current demand?  If approved we will have larger sparsely
filled buses replacing smaller sparsely filled ones! It does not make sense.

Even the thought about frequency of bus stops, every 15 minutes; based

on what 'current data'?

Nor does the public learn the amount being subsidized by taxes, fees,
debt equals 87% to hold fare to $1.50 per trip.

Other financing elements include reliance on 25% funded by the federal
govt. Unfortunately, such funding depends on the whim of agencies, and
not secured.

Additionally, long and short term debt totally over $500 million has not
been secured, planners "hope" to find  investors will step up.
Lastly, the state has not said it would provide funding for the project.

Even reliance on a $10 per vehicle registration is suspect, it can easily
be increased if ridership does not materialize, and exactly what occurred
with the 540 toll, increasing as most commuters avoid using it!

One final thought.

Under the radar has been an undercurrent against the unbridled growth
happening throughout the region. We don't hear about or read about it,
but it is there.

Does Cary really have plan for 200,000 residents rather than  provide
more amenities for the 150,000 currently living there?
This incessant appetite for "more" that created the congestion now

drives a desire for 'transit plans' does not make sense! Just because
towns have undeveloped land does not mean development must be
approved.

Mores green ways and parks define communities as much as residential
developments and large commercial enterprises.
I appreciate you taking the time to read this.

Camille Paglia on feminism coexisting not battling

If you are unfamiliar with Camille Paglia she is progressive
feminist icon who is thoughtful and respectful of opposing
viewpoints.

Most recently her criticism of Hillary Clinton has made the
news, even though they go back to her days as First Lady,
which she explains in following story.

But, the interview is an important message about feminism
and Hillary is only small part. Paglia is a deep thinker,
who open doors in our minds. She was interviewed in London
and demonstrates feminism can exist in harmony with men.
She is also a renowned author...you may be interested in
some of her works. Share this with others, especially young
women just starting out, consider passing along to daughters.

The interview.
‘In order to run for president of the United States, you have
to  spend two or three years of your life out on the road
constantly asking for money and most women find that life too
harsh, too draining,’ Paglia argues. ‘That is why we haven’t
had a woman president in the United States — not because we
haven’t been ready for one, for heaven’s sakes, for a very
long time…’ Hillary hasn’t suffered because she is a woman.

She has shamelessly exploited the fact: ‘It’s an outrage how
she’s played the gender card. A woman without accomplishment.
“I sponsored or co-sponsored 400 bills.” Oh really? These were
bills to rename bridges and so forth. And the things she has
accomplished have been like the destabilization of North Africa,
causing refugees to flood into Italy… The woman is a disaster!’

Paglia voted for Bill Clinton twice before becoming revolted by
the treatment meted out to Monica Lewinsky: ‘My jaundiced view
of her is entirely the result of observing her behavior. And
last election, I voted for Jill Stein’s Green party. So I have
already voted for a woman president.’

As far as most feminists are concerned, such a view is unconscionable.
Gloria Steinem and Madeleine Albright made it their business to
castigate American girls who wanted Bernie Sanders, while Madonna
has promised a blowjob for every Clinton vote.

Paglia does not seem to mind much if she makes herself violently
unpopular with her contemporaries — she’s an expert at it.
Paglia’s feminism has always been concerned with issues far beyond
her own navel and the Hillary verdict is typical of her attitude —
which is more in touch with women in the real world than most
feminists’ (a majority of Americans, for example, have an
‘unfavorable view of Hillary Clinton’ according to recent polling).

‘My philosophy of feminism,’ Paglia explains,‘I call street-smart
Amazon feminism. I’m from an immigrant family. The way I was
brought up was: the world is a dangerous place; you must learn to
defend yourself. You can’t be a fool. You have to stay alert.’

Today, middle-class girls are being reared in a precisely contrary
fashion: cosseted, indulged and protected from every evil, they
become helpless victims when confronted by adversity. ‘We are
rocketing backwards here to the Victorian period with this belief
that women are not capable of making decisions on their own. This
is not feminism — which is to achieve independent thought and action.
There will never be equality of the sexes if we think that women are
so handicapped they can’t look after themselves.’

Paglia traces the roots of this belief system to American campus culture
and the cult of women’s studies. This ‘poison’ — as she calls it — has
spread worldwide. ‘In London, you now have this plague of female
journalists who don’t seem to have made a deep study of anything…’

She never moans about ‘the patriarchy’ but freely asserts that man
made capitalism has enabled her to write her books.

As for male/female relations, she says that they are far more complex
than most feminists insist. ‘I wrote a date-rape essay in 1991 in which
I called for women to stand up for themselves and learn how to handle
men. But now you have this shibboleth, “No means no.” Well, no.
Sometimes “No” means “Not yet”. Sometimes “No” means “Too soon”. Or,

“No” means “Keep trying and maybe yes”. You can see it with the pigeons
on the grass. The male pursues the female and she turns away, and turns
away, and he looks a fool but he keeps on pursuing her. And maybe she’s
testing his persistence; the strength of his genes… It’s a pattern in
the animal kingdom — a courtship pattern…’ But for pointing such things
out, Paglia adds, she has been ‘defamed, attacked and viciously maligned’
— so, no, she is not in the least surprised that wolf-whistling has now
been designated a hate crime in Birmingham.

Girls would be far better advised to revert to the brave feminist approach
of her generation — when women were encouraged to fight all their battles
by themselves, and win. ‘Germaine Greer was once in this famous debate
with Norman Mailer at Town Hall. Mailer was formidable, enormously
famous and powerful. She just laid into him: “I was expecting a hard,
nuggety sort of man and he was positively blousy…” Now that shows a power
of speech that cuts men up. And this is the way women should be dealing
with men — finding their weaknesses and susceptibilities… not bringing in
an army of pseudo, proxy parents to put them down for you so you can
preserve your perfect girlishness.’

In an hour’s non-stop talking, Professor Paglia is only lost when asked
which younger feminists she would pass the baton to. ‘I would love to
inspire dissident young feminists to realize that this brand of feminism
is not all feminism…’ she says, before citing Germaine Greer as the woman
she admires most alive, and Amelia Earhart and Katharine Hepburn as
heroines alas dead.

As with Greer, it is Paglia’s power of speech that utterly devastates. Her collected works read like a dictionary of vicious quotations. (Leaving sex
to the feminists? ‘Like letting your dog vacation at the taxidermist.’ Lena
Dunham? ‘She’s a big pile of pudding.’)

Paglia is pro-liberty, pro–pornography, pro-prostitutes and anti- any and
all special treatment when it comes to women in power: ‘I do not believe
in quotas of any kind. Scandinavian countries are going in that direction
and it’s an insult to women — the idea that you need a quota.’

Which brings us back to Hillary and the so-called victory her re-entering
the White House would represent: ‘If Hillary wins, nothing will change.
She knows the bureaucracy, all the offices of government and that’s what
she likes to do, sit behind the scenes and manipulate the levers of power.’

Paglia says she has absolutely no idea how the election will go: ‘But people
want change and they’re sick of the establishment — so you get this great
popular surge, like you had one as well…

This idea that Trump represents such a threat to western civilization —
it’s often predicted about presidents and nothing ever happens — yet if
Trump wins it will be an amazing moment of change because it would
destroy the power structure of the Republican party, the power structure
of the Democratic party and destroy the power of the media. It would be
an incredible release of energy… at a moment of international tension
and crisis.’

All of a sudden, the professor seems excited. Perhaps, like all radicals in
pursuit of the truth, Paglia is still hoping the revolution will come.

Donald Trump's plan for urban renewal

Trump Proposes Urban Renewal Agenda For America’s Inner Cities

It is great to be here in Charlotte to discuss an issue that means
so much to me, urban renewal, and rebuilding of our inner cities.

Today I want to talk about how to grow the African-American middle
class, and provide a new deal for Black America. That deal is grounded
in three promises: safe communities, great education, and high-paying jobs.

Every African-American citizen in this country is entitled to a government
that puts their jobs, wages and security first.

My vision rests on a principle defined by my campaign: America First.

Our campaign is about change, optimism, and the future. I am asking
people to break from the bitter failures of the past, and imagine the
amazing possibilities for our future.

American politics is caught in a time loop – we keep electing the
same people, who keep making the same mistakes, and keep
offering the same excuses.

The fact that our corrupt Washington establishment has tried so hard
to stop our movement is just more proof that we represent the kind
of change that arrives only once in a lifetime.

Every day I’m proposing fresh solutions and new thinking. And every
day, the same people, getting rich off our broken system, tell us that
we can’t change and that we can’t try anything new.

I have a message for all the doubters in Washington: America’s future
belongs to the dreamers, not the cynics.

And it’s time to extend that dream to every African-American citizen
in this country.

African-American citizens have sacrificed so much for this nation.
They fought and died in every war since the Revolution, and from
the pews and the picket lines they lifted up the conscience of our
country in the long march for Civil Rights.

Yet, too many African-Americans have been left behind. 45% of their
children under the age of 6 live in poverty. 58% of their youth are not
currently employed. They are roughly 13% of the population, yet make
up 60% of murder victims under the age of 22.

In 2015, violent crime in Charlotte increased by 18 % – and it’s
expected to rise 24% in 2016. In the city of Chicago, nearly 3,500
people have been shot since January of this year. The conditions
in our inner cities today are unacceptable.

Democrats have run our inner cities for fifty, sixty, seventy years
or more. They’ve run the school boards, the city councils, the
mayor’s offices, and the congressional seats. Their policies have
failed, and they’ve failed miserably.

They’ve trapped children in failing government schools, and opposed
school choice at every turn.

Then there is the issue of taxation and regulation. Massive taxes
and regulations on small business, and radical restrictions on
energy, driving jobs and opportunities out of our inner cities.

One of the greatest betrayals has been the issue of immigration.
Illegal immigration violates the civil rights of African-Americans.

No group has been more economically, harmed by decades of
illegal immigration than low-income African-American workers.

Hillary’s pledge to enact “open borders,” – made in secret to a
foreign bank – would destroy the African-American middle class.

At the center of my revitalization plan is the issue of trade. Look
at what happened to Baltimore, Detroit, Pittsburgh and Cleveland.
Massive, chronic trade deficits have emptied out our jobs. .

It’s the greatest jobs theft in the history of the world.

We won’t let your jobs be stolen from you anymore. When we stop
the offshoring to low-wage countries, we raise wages at home –
meaning rent and bills become instantly more affordable.

At the same time, my plan to lower the business tax from 35% to
15% will bring thousands of new companies onto our shores. It
also includes a massive middle class tax cut, tax-free childcare
savings accounts, and childcare tax deductions and credits.

I will also propose tax holidays for inner-city investment, and
new tax incentives to get foreign companies to relocate in
blighted American neighborhoods. I will further empower cities
and states to seek a federal disaster designation for blighted
communities in order to initiate the rebuilding of vital
infrastructure, the demolition of abandoned properties, and
the increased presence of law enforcement.

I will also pursue financial reforms to make it easier for young
African-Americans to get credit to pursue their dreams in
business and create jobs in their communities.

Dodd-Frank has been a disaster, making it harder for small
businesses to get the credit they need.

The policies of the Clintons brought us the financial recession
– through lifting Glass-Steagall, pushing subprime lending,
and blocking reforms to Fannie and Freddie.

It’s time for a 21st century Glass Steagall and,a priority on
helping African- American businesses get the credit they need.

We will also encourage small-business creation by allowing
social welfare workers to convert poverty assistance into
repayable but forgive-able micro-loans.

Then there is the issue of public safety. Making our communities
safe again will be a priority for the Trump Administration.

I have heard and listened to the concerns raised by African-
American citizens about our justice system.

I promise under a Trump Administration the law will be applied
fairly, equally and without prejudice. There will be only one set
of rules – not a two-tiered system of justice.

The best evidence of unequal justice is that Hillary Clinton could
violate ignore a Congressional subpoena, lie to Congress and the
FBI – put our national security at grave risk – and not even face
so much as a fine.

Equal justice also means the same rules for Wall Street. which
the Obama Administration never held Wall Street accountable.

We will also police our streets. I want every poor African-American
child to be  able to walk down the street in peace.

Safety is a civil right. The problem is not the presence of police
but the absence of police. I will invest in training and funding
both local and federal law enforcement operations to remove
gangs, drug dealers, and criminal cartels from neighborhoods.

The reduction of crime is not merely a goal – but a necessity. We
will get it done. The war on police  urged on by my rival is reckless,
and dangerous, and puts African-American lives at risk. We must
work with our police, not against them.

On immigration, my policy is simple. I will restore the civil rights
of African-Americans, Hispanic-Americans, and all Americans,
by ending illegal immigration.

I will reform visa rules to give American workers preference for
jobs, and I will suspend reckless refugee admissions from terror-
prone regions that cost taxpayers hundreds of billions of dollars.

A portion of the money saved by enforcing our laws, and suspending
refugees, will be re-invested in our inner cities. It is time to help
American citizens who have become refugees in their own country.

Infrastructure will be another major goal. My contract calls for
$1 trillion dollars in infrastructure investment, of which the inner
cities will be a major beneficiary.

I will also cancel all wasteful climate change spending from Obama-
Clinton, including all global warming payments to the United Nations.

These steps will save $100 billion over 8 years, and this money will
be used to help rebuild the vital infrastructure, including water
systems, in America’s inner cities.

School choice is at the center of my plan. My proposal redirects
education spending to allow every disadvantaged child in America
to attend the public, private, charter, magnet, religious or home
school of their choice.

School choice is the great civil rights issue of our time, and I
will be the nation’s biggest cheerleader for school choice in
all 50 states.

I will appoint a commission to investigate the school to prison
pipeline and shut it down and create a new pathway that leads
from a great education to a great job. My plan will ensure funding
for Historical Black Colleges and Universities, more affordable
2 and 4-year college, and support trade and vocational education.

Finally, my agenda includes the protection of religious liberty,
promotion of family, and the African-American church.

This is just the beginning. Because I will never, ever take the
African-American community for granted.

It will be my mission to prove to this country that yesterday does
not have to be tomorrow. The cycle of poverty can be broken,
and great new things can happen for our people.

But to achieve this, we must reject the failed elites in Washington
who’ve been wrong about virtually everything for decades.

The people opposing us promised that passing NAFTA, and opening
our markets to China, would bring a new era of prosperity and
job creation. Instead, they brought only poverty and heartache.

The people opposing us are the same people who’ve wasted $6 trillion
on wars in the Middle East that have produced only more terrorism,
more death, and more suffering – imagine if that money had been spent
at home.

Finally, our opponents passed a healthcare law, embraced by Hillary
Clinton, over the furious objections of the American voter. Obamacare
is now destroying our healthcare system – premiums are skyrocketing
double-digits and are surging by more than 100% in the great state of
Arizona. Doctors are quitting, insurers are leaving, and companies are
fleeing. If we don’t repeal and replace this disastrous law, we will
lose our healthcare system forever.

Now is the time to embrace a New Direction.

I want to go into the inner cities, the poor rural communities,
and failing schools, and I want to work on a national plan for
revitalization.

I’m tired of the excuses from our politicians. I’m tired of being
told what can’t be done. I’m tired of people asking Americans to
defer their dreams to another day, but really another decade.

The time is now. There is nothing we can’t accomplish. There is no
task or project too great. There is no dream outside our reach.

Everywhere I go in this country, all I see is untapped potential
waiting to be set free. But we will never realize that potential
if we continue putting our faith in a broken political system that
has let us down time and again.

We have to choose the more optimistic path – we have to choose
to believe not in our politicians, but to believe in ourselves and
in our country. If we do that, anything is possible.

I’m asking America to join me in dreaming big and bold things for
our future. Let’s close the history books on the failures in
Washington, and  let’s open a new chapter of success and prosperity
for everyone.

It is my highest and greatest hope that the Republican Party can be
the home of the African-American vote once again.

Together, we will have a government of, by and for the people.

And we will Make America Great Again For All Americans.

What is wrong with the Bush Family?

Most Republicans I know respect the service of the Bush family
even though there is disagreement on some issues.  But, on one
issue we are in total agreement, national security is paramount!

So it is perplexing the Bush family has made it more than obvious
they prefer Hillary Clinton being elected rather than Trump.

Going on her performance as both adviser to President Obama
and Secy of State her failings are impossible to ignore.

It must deeply hurt President Bush to see what has happened in
Iraq since he restored stability with the 'surge' at the end of his
second term. Now Iraq is close to being annexed by Iran which

he would never allowed to happen.

Nor, how can George W. not be troubled by the treatment of two
Iraq military heros, McChrystal and Petraeus, especially Hillary's
harsh, insulting and disrespectful display towards  Petraeus during
a Senate hearing.

Since I am sure George W respects both men, he should ask them
who they will vote for.

Yet, the Bush family remains mum about what Hillary really thinks
of the military by ignoring her decades of contempt. They know.

Iraq is one part of the Middle East puzzle. George W must be
equally disturbed how Obama and Hillary destroyed whatever
degree of stability was found in Libya after Muammar Gaddafi
reached out to him. Does the Bush family remember the smile
on Hillary face after Gaddafi was murdered in the street?

The Middle East is worse today than when George W. left
office. To think Hillary is the right person would take a
"suspension of disbelief", exactly what Hillary insultingly
said to Petraeus.

Add to this the relationship with Russia, now worse than it
was before Reagan!

As for the Republican Party, it is fractured due to the fear
of its establishment of  Trump upsetting 'governing as usual'.

Trump should be commended for driving up registrations after
years of the electorate gravitating towards unaffiliated.

I wonder if the Bush family even  reviewed the plans Trump is
campaigning on. They should. He is attacking problems politicians
only campaign on.

The outreach to poor Blacks and Latinos is equal to George W's
efforts. The assurances coal miners jobs would be protected, the
strong support of law enforcement, strengthening of health care
by replacing Obamacare, the conservative he would appoint to
the Supreme Court, the plan to finally fix the VA, simplified three
rate tax code and reduction in corporate tax by two thirds are
all equal to what is written in the Republican Party's platform.

Hillary offers none of this...only hollow promises, quickly forgotten.

In the minds of many American the Clintons are undeserving of
returning to the White House and privately probably so does the
Bush family.

I remember the re-election campaign of George HW Bush and
how low the Clintons went to defeat him with allegations of an
affair, a matter which 'came out of the blue' just to draw votes
away from him.

Add to this the gall of tainting HW's reputation by having him
join President Clinton in the effort to aid Haiti which we now
find have enriched their foundation while failing the Haitian
people who still protest in front of Bill Clinton's office!

With the waterfall flow of information the world now sees the
depth of the corruption Hillary used in the State Dept.

Does the Bush family really think she would not use the power
of the presidency to do further damage our nation?

The Bush family are not fools. They know the Clintons as well
as anyone. To see them not work to defeat Hillary Clinton makes
many of the Republican electorate wonder why.

The Bush family refusal to support Donald Trump tells us much
more about them than any misgivings they have towards Trump!
