An issue barely mentioned during the presidential debates....

Listening to the presidential candidates we heard about terrorism, illegal immigration,
securing the border, trade deals, jobs, education, health care, veterans, income
equality, college tuition and more.

Yet, probably the most important issue, the one which puts our nation under the
greatest threat, and the very reason we have this nation was never discussed at
length and mentioned only briefly by two candidates.

The lack of discussion on the relationship between the states and national govt.
is not only troubling, it threatens to destroy the foundation our nation was built
upon, independent and sovereign states that self-govern with limited interference
from the legislature, executive or court, the three branches as defined in the
US Constitution.

Over the past several decades the states and their citizens have submitted to the
desires of the national govt. that mandates through legislation, regulations and
court rulings.

No matter each state has its own legislature, agencies and courts guided by their
own constitutions, the national govt. often usurps states' legal authority with
dictates enforced by the power of its purse and arms if need be.

This was not the intention of our Founders, or the first Congress which passed our
Constitution than explicitly limited its own authority.

But, as important as the encroachment that weakens independent states is, it
remains a "non issue" to most elected representatives, Federal agencies and
courts that wield so much power.

Even the media doesn't report this, perhaps because they do not see its a problem
or ignorant about the sovereignty each state should have.

And, no one seems overly concerned it puts the states at risk, gradually becoming
totally subservient and dependent on Washington, DC. How so?

We see examples when national programs are forced on the states under threat of
losing committed funds, as was the case with Common Core education standard or
when all citizens were required to purchase health insurance.

We saw it when Arizona attempted to enforce Federal immigration laws only to learn
it would be sued if it did.

We even see it when the Federal govt. boldly states it will put in regulations that
forces legitimate businesses to go bankrupt, as it has done to the coal industry.

And now we see it in NC when the Dept. of Justice is threatening to sue the state for
prohibiting men from using a women's restroom or locker room, even before the matter
goes before the courts!

Examples such as these can be found across the country, yet our Congress, the people
who are suppose to represent the states and its citizens, behave as though they are
in the employ of the national government, not the people who elected them or states
they represent.

Many Americans may not even know states have constitutions that protect them, nor
be aware such state guaranteed rights have been and continue to be stolen from them.

Unless the encroachment is stopped it will destroy the essential ingredient of
American governance; the authority of independent, sovereign states to govern
without an overreaching national government imposing its will beyond the boundaries
of the Constitution.

Too bad candidates did not address state independent sovereignty at length. If they
did, the American people might have learned what is occurring and avoid finding
themselves like the frog placed in warm water and eventually cooked as the temperature
was raised.
