Donald Trump has been called a lot of things, but I'm sure no one called
him George M. Cohan!
Well, in one respect Trump and Cohan have something in common, they
are both 'outliers' , behaving in their respective vocations as no other.
We know that Trump has entered his first fray in politics with more success
than even his most ardent supporters could have expected.
And, for those who may not be familiar with Cohan, he also went against the
grain of theater entertainment with his patriotic plays and songs.
Both men suffered the slings and arrows of their respective 'establishments'
of politics and theater, and both proved the conventional wisdom merely
another example of ignorance.
But, there is one thing that cemented my opinion about Donald Trump being
a 21st century 'Yankee Doodle Dandy", as George M. Cohan was known
more than 100 years ago.
In the movie "Yankee Doodle Dandy", the story of Cohan's life, his partner
Sam Harris was confronted by a reporter about Cohan and his plays were
not deserving of Broadway.
Harris saw something in Cohan his theater critics either did not see or refused
to accept. Harris told the reporter he believed Cohan will be a great success
and "I'm hitching my wagon to his star".
This could be exactly why millions of Americans support Trump, they see in
him what Harris saw in Cohan.
Maybe the Trump Express could actually take him to the White House.
