One of the criticisms of Donald Trump's campaign for the presidency
has been the occasional lack of 'civility' he shows when challenged
or criticized.
Such displays have professional politicians aghast, behavior that
is viewed as unexceptionable in the political arena.
Most of us would agree; we expect the people who serve us to behave
uniformly as most do.
But, this "lack of civility" might be appropriate given what has
happened to political discourse.
Consider what is said on the floor of the Congress. Yes, the language
may qualify as "civil", but the remarks are often the most incendiary
made towards other members!
We have seen this time and again on the campaign trail when the most
'gentile' language is used to insult or demean an opponent. "Civil"
perhaps, but principled and honest, hardly!
Yes, Donald Trump at times does not adhere to an unwritten political
'rule book', but he does connect with the public that has had it with
polished, well spoken politicians who talk a lot while doing very
little to address long lingering problems.
Civility is nothing more than the mask which hides "contempt" in the
world of politics!
