The museum of conservative thinkers

Walking through the halls of the 'conservative museum' you'll see
portraits of respected luminaries of the conservative movement,
revered for their contributions to the cause. These are the deep
thinkers who founded promoted conservatism.

They are the apostles who preached and wrote of this superior
governing ideology, yet only within the inner circle are their
names widely known which gives us a hint of the problem.

Unfortunately, their notoriety should not be flattering based
on the state of conservatism and direction our nation is heading.
Its apparent these conservative icons failed in their mission.

Few of them even fought in the political arena. Their preferred
battlefield has been the opinion pages in liberal newspapers
or publishing conservative magazines whose subscribers are
committed to the cause; hence, preaching to a choir of a like
minded congregation.

It is  false nostalgia to speak of their literary exploits unless you
add they failed to stop the advance of their ideological adversary,
progressives, once known as liberals.

As conservatives made lofty speeches and wrote with eloquence,
progressives did not. They did what they knew would work!

Progressives took control of the political arena, passed laws and
enacted regulations, moving government closer towards socialism
and used the wealth of capitalism to fuel its engine.

They then used the power of government to transform university
education, starting with law schools which became incubators for
their ideology, then replacing education with indoctrination.

Progressives executed their plan flawlessly while conservatives
continued to pontificate on the righteousness of their views.

Just as conservative  thinkers of  the past,  new ones continue
the same approach. They refuse to enter the political  arena so
there will be no threat to progressive governance.

They will give speeches, write books and newspaper opinion pieces,
privately knowing they will not advance their beliefs any further than
conservatives before them.

The conservative portraits in the "museum" will soon be joined by
some of this new group so they too will not be forgotten, the final
reward for failing to succeed.

Perhaps this is what conservatism really is, a 'calling card' to remain
relevant in a world that sees them as irrelevant. They are tolerated,
invited to non-ideological social events, even earn enough to live in
one of the richest areas in the country, Washington and neighboring
counties.

If this is the yardstick to measure success, we know the reason most
in our country will prefer not to be.
