The Sharpton syndrome, not to be confused with the Stockholm syndrome, is
a psychological phenomenon first seen in the 1970s when businesses were held
hostage by organized threats of protests and boycotts. As expected, owners cast
aside principles after considering the affect on their "bottom line".
The syndrome is named after Al Sharpton who parlayed these threats into "contributions"
to his community assistance group and even gained notoriety to become a political power
player to the White House.
Today the Sharpton syndrome has become the standard to terrorize businesses to join
whatever cause, pressuring govt. and institutions to meet coerced demands!
Often, when a divisive issue becomes news many businesses voluntarily flock and the
Sharpton syndrome takes over. They know full well they have no choice as the visions of
protestors dance in their heads.
