McAuliffe restores voting rights for 206K ex-felons; GOP calls it move to boost Clinton
Story on this link...http://bit.ly/1SAKJ
Oh Heavens! Felons can now vote in Virginia!
This story should come as no surprise, it has been a political tug o war for many years,Democrats believe felons, once completing whatever penalty they receive by the legal
system, should have their right to vote restored. Republicans believe this is a blatant
political act as statistics show the majority of felons vote for Democrats.
While both parties have their own partisan view, we must put politics aside, as hard as this
may be.
The question should be, is losing the right to vote forever too harsh a penalty for any citizen
who has already paid his debt?
I believe it is, and suggest a reasonable structured "time frame" needs to be created so
felons can be part of the governing process of electing their representatives.
And, if the Republican Party feels it cannot compete for the 'felon vote' they should use the
same approach which works successfully with lobbyists, donors, corporations and other
special interests for years to win them over.
Lastly, since this happened in Virginia the Republican Party can share the blame. The GOP
candidate, Ken Cuccinelli was cash strapped near the end and funds stopped coming,
leading to McAuliffe win.
The party could have and should have done more. Fight to win for your candidates!
