North Carolina boycott, what it really means!

Its been two weeks and the tally is getting larger, the latest "war" on North
Carolina is moving ahead full throttle.

From the public sector San Francisco, New York, Connecticut and several cities
have said govt. personnel would not be allowed to attend any events in North
Carolina, while in the private sector the list of corporations has grown in leaps
and bounds, now totally over one hundred, some which may boycott doing
business in the state as well!

Unless you've been asleep under a rock you already know, the state invalided
a Charlotte ordinance allowing transgenders to use the restroom facilities of
their choosing without regard for others or the cost of compliance on businesses.

There is much that can be said about this decision, merits can be found on both
sides of the discussion.

But the most important matter has been given no attention; the decision by cities,
states and businesses to not respect legal decisions made be states.

Cities, states and corporations that boycott lawful decisions of governing bodies
undermine one of the most cherished elements of our country, the independent
sovereignty each state has.

North Carolina did nothing out of its legal authority, yet critics seem to imply it did.

If you are not aware this is not the first time in recent years North Carolina has
been under fire. The most memorable was the"audacity" of the state to require
a photo ID to vote, a decision which made national news, attacked from many
quarters and several law suits. The law was upheld, elections held without the
voter suppression warned about.

In 1973 California legalized marijuana and there were no boycotts, others states
respected California's right.

But, a lot can happen in forty years. Now every state can be held to account by those
outside its borders or its legal authority.

Unfortunately, what is happening in North Carolina will be replicated across the country.

States will govern on fear rather than thoughtful consideration. And no one will be the wiser!
