"He's not a Democrat, He's not a Republican"

The popularity of Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump has brought a reminder
from party loyalists, a refrain we'll hear as they continue to draw the largest
crowds and remain competitive with broad constituencies.

Sanders serves in the Senate as an Independent and proudly says he is
a Socialist. Trump has been registered as a Democrat in the past and
now is registered as a Republican.

Sanders is running as a Democrat and Trump, a Republican. Both men are
not "traditional" party members, which wasn't a problem for party leadership
until they proved to be serious challengers to each party's nomination. Now
it appears to be a problem!

Party loyalists are quick to claim neither are "authentic" party members,
whatever that means!

First of all, there is no litmus test to join a political party, not even dues
are required. Anyone can register, and "Presto, you're a member".

Party members can differ on issues, but should remain unified unless they
veer far away from the party's platform.

Sanders and Trump are doing their part, they have energized the electorate,
proven non-establish candidates can win and offer the promise govt can do
better than we have seen.

So, next time we hear, "He's not a Democrat, He's not a Republican", consider
this is just what the doctor ordered!
